The Oboya Foundation provides free weekly athletics coaching for all participants.
In addition, our needs-based Grant Program offers targeted financial support to young athletes facing financial barriers. It's purpose is simple:
To ensure finances are never the reason a young person misses out on opportunity.
Free coaching is open to all. Grants provide additional support to those who need it most.
Each year, up to 20 young athletes per program location will receive needs-based grants that may include:
Grants are designed to support full participation - from training through to competition - across both Little Athletics and Senior pathways.
All grant funding is allocated directly to approved expenses to ensure accountability, transparency and impact.
To be considered for a needs-based grant, applicants must:
All participants continue to receive free weekly coaching, regardless of grant outcome.
Grants are awarded based on demonstrated need and commitment - not performance.
Coaching begins in September 2026 and operates year-round.
Participants become eligible to apply for a needs-based grant after completing the minus six-week engagement period and meeting attendance requirements.
Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis once eligibility is met, subject to available funding. Application will remain open until the annual allocations of grants has been awarded.
Up to 20 needs-based grants will awarded per program location each calendar year. The Foundation will initially launch in one Melbourne location, expanding to additional areas as funding grows. Increased funding capacity will allow for both geographic expansion and a greater number of grants awarded per location over time.
Grants are awarded for one season and maybe reviewed annually based on continued participation, commitment and demonstrated need.
The Oboya Foundation is built on equity, structure and accountability.
We believe every young person derives access to opportunity in athletics. Through universal coaching and targeted financial support, we are creating environments where confidence, belonging and potential can grow - regardless of financial circumstances.
Applications are assessed with care, transparency and confidentiality to ensure fairness, accountability and long-term sustainability.
Grant recipients are expected to uphold the values of The Oboya Foundation through consistent attendance, effort and respectful conduct.
